A friend who works at Cell magazine, a biological journal, recently received a truly bizarre press release. While the journal received it by email, the press release can be found online here (the "News" section).

This "independent profiler", who was simply bored by college, decided she could determine whether somebody was gay or a serial killer by measuring facial asymmetry - and verified this hypothesis by studying pictures found on the Internet. This doesn't just rehash phrenology, it does so poorly - it measures deviancy in pixels.

I've read the page and press release several times and am surprised by a different weirdness every time I do so. This kind of strangeness cannot be made up. Wow.
