Extended parent alert

connaticI get along with my parents quite well, but I think that's largely because they live on a different continent. My parents in law live over a 1000 miles away, one to the south and one to the west, so that's not a problem either.
The parental units visit us in New York once a year; normally three to four months apart. That didn't work out that well this time... my mother arrives today and leaves next Wednesday, and my dad arrives the Friday after that and is here for the weekend. That means I'm on parent alert for the next week and a half.
I'm both looking forward to seeing them and dreading the visit. Heidi's been on a cleaning binge at home - things have rarely been this clean (not that we're slouches normally, but hey). I've cleaned out the bookshelves and carted many bags of old cruft to the thrift store. And our cat has graciously allowed us to comb out her few fur mats (and I have the scars to prove it).
Even so, I can expect to hear criticism on the size of the apartment and the amount of books we've managed to get in there; on the amount of noise in New York; and on the rudeness of New Yorkers. And while they've both accepted neither Heidi nor I wants to have kids, my mom is sure to bring up my youngest sister's pregnancy and coo over the various pictures of my other sisters' children.
Ah well. It will all be over in a week and a half...
