The tail end of winter

connaticOur vacation trip ended up being the very tail end of winter. We went upstate to the Friends Lake Inn, which has great food and is close to Gore Mountain and Whiteface. We met up with our friends Nat and Wendy, also avid foodies and skiers.
Thursday was a day for driving (with a short but expensive stop at the Woodbury Commons outlet stores) and dinner at the bar of the FLI.
Friday we drove to Whiteface, but the temperature was in the 60s and it rained most of the time. Skiing was basically a wipe-out. In the evening we had a five-course dinner and Cote du Rhone wine-tasting - excellent!
Saturday was much better - we went to Gore Mountain where the temperature was in the 50s, there was no rain, and they had made fresh snow overnight. Conditions were good. Dinner at the FLI was once again filling, though not as insane as the wine tasting.
Sunday we drove back - again high temperature and rain. Glad we weren't planning to do any snow sports that day. And Monday will be in the 70s - in March! I am so glad our administration tells us all this global warming stuff is wrong, otherwise I would be really worried. Let's hope next winter is colder, or Heidi will want to move to North Canada...
