We've made a lot of progress on the new apartment this week. On Wednesday, we made a trip to New Jersey to visit Ikea, Target etc. We took the small things home; the big things will be delivered (up five stairs) on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the dining table, stairs, desk, rugs and chandelier arrived. We'd ordered things from two different companies, so it was a pleasant surprise to see two delivery companies lugging things up the stairs at the same time.

On Friday, the contractor dropped by to see what it will cost to install a washer & dryer (the ultimate Manhattan luxury, silly at that seems to the rest of the US). We'll have details on Monday or Tuesday - I fear a price tag that will buy a small new car, but we've budgeted for it and it will make Heidi happy, so let's hope it can be done.

Today Heidi started painting the walls - two small walls need to be redone and one needs to be touched up. My contributions were buying the paint, getting the ladder upstairs, and putting painter's tape on the ceiling where she can't reach. Since my house painting skills are subzero, I left Heidi to get on with it - and the results look good so far.

After a run (I am now up to a figure eight around Central Park, 6.5 miles including some nasty hills, at about 8 minutes a mile) it was time to get groceries and cook. Veggie lasagna tonight, butternut squash risotto tomorrow, a good bottle of wine - life is worth living. Though it'd be nice if the move was all done...
