Today's the day...
Dec. 14th, 2006 06:58 amToday is when bonuses and promotions are announced at work. I went through a rough patch at work earlier this year, but have decided to stay - a lot of bullshit and makeshift work has gone away since I complained. Things would have to get pretty bad (again) for me to take other offers seriously.
Anyway, it looks like this is the year I'm getting promoted; and bonuses should be good, too, though not in the Goldman Sachs league - their 650K average bonuses are in a different league from ours. Even so today's news will pretty much determine what size and type of apartment I can afford to buy next year. I'll hear the news around 9 this morning. Lack of a post means good news as I'll be out partying with my team...
Follow-up: the promotion arrived - new business cards, an extra week of vacation, and new responsibility - I can finally own a lot of reports/signoffs/meetings that my boss has been doing and reduce his workload. All my colleagues had been clued in - after I heard the news and left my boss' office, there was a group of people clapping and ready with champagne. A very happy moment.
The bonus was nice but not crazy: above inflation, but not crazy like 20% up. We're in line to buy an apartment, but either a one bedroom or outside of Manhattan. Still, good news!
