World cup craziness

I'm one of the least sports-addicted people I know - my wife Heidi watches more sports than I do, I watched less than 2 hours of the Winter Olympics, ignored the superbowl, and ignore both the Mets and the Yankees. But here we are, it's the soccer^Wfootball World Cup, my home country is playing, and I might as well watch it.

Which doesn't fully explain how Heidi and I get to be in a English football pub, down in the East Village, at 8AM on a Sunday morning to meet up with friends and watch the game against Serbia. It was a good game - well played and, due to an early Dutch goal, with the outcome never really in doubt. It's very strange to be drinking beer at 9AM with a crowd of 40-odd compatriots (more than I've ever seen together here in New York) to watch a game I normally claim not to care about. But it sure was fun, and if Holland plays more games on the weekend, I'll definitely do this again.
