Heidi and I are spending the weekend in Baltimore with our friends Nat and Wendy. We left New York Friday afternoon in unpleasant weather - a mix of sleet, ice and snow. After a few hours in an overbooked and sweltering train, we arrived in Baltimore to find the same weather - it has cleared up since.
Nat and Wendy have a large Victorian brownstone, with a huge eat-in kitchen on the ground floor. Wendy is a great cook and we spent most of Friday evening snacking, chatting, eating and drinking wine; followed by a Simpsons and ice cream session in the TV room.
The occasion of the visit is a St Patrick's Day party Nat and Wendy are throwing tonight. They're expecting 30-odd people and food, beer and cake will be provided for all of them. The chocolate stout cake is my favorite so far, but I'll have to do a more thorough sampling later. By happenstance, this also allows us to escape St Patrick's Day in New York. The parade itself is fun, but it ends in our neighborhood, which means that hundreds of drunk frat boys descend on the streets and bars - it'll be good to escape that one year.
In other news, we haven't closed on the new apartment yet, but it is imminent. The sellers lost some of their bank paperwork and only found out this week (two months into the sale)... sloppy but ah well.
