Life after VM
Sep. 6th, 2006 02:21 pmI don't watch a lot of TV - what I do watch tends to be on DVD. We received the second season of Veronica Mars a week and a half ago, and spent most of out free nights watching it - three to four episodes at a time, except for Sunday night when we saw six of them back to back.
This is definitely the best non-Joss Whedon TV series I've seen. The writing is a little predictable (a false clue and cliffhanger at the end of each episode) and the overall plot is full of holes due the heavy use of red herrings, but the acting is good and the actors work together really well.
Heidi wants to watch the next season on TV, but I'm not sure. Will the show still be fun when each episode is bloated with ads to make 42 minutes of content last an hour? Won't it be hard that you cannot go to the next episode? On the other hand, waiting a full year for the next season will be hard, too. We'll see.
The nice thing of wrapping up a TV series is that normal evening life can return. So far, I've read the new Tim Powers (good), the new Louise Welsh (okay) and am halfway through the third Malazan book from Steven Erikson (awesome). Can you imagine finding a truly great TV series on DVD and putting life on hold while watching 5 or more seasons?
