It never rains but it pours
Aug. 10th, 2006 10:06 pmWe've had a lot of hot weather in the past month; the humidity has been high, but there has been very little rain.
Today, we first had a short shower during the afternoon; but tonight, there was a big rain storm (thunder, lightning, dark clouds, washed-out streets) with a few inches of rain in about 30 minutes.
Heidi and I were having dinner at a local diner during the rain storm. We saw it coming when we walked there, enjoyed our dinner while looking at totally drenched passers-by, and felt sad for the dogs being walked while it was coming down. When we walked home, it was mostly dry.
But when we went downstairs for bed a few hours later, we saw our downstairs bathroom must have backed up - the bedroom floor was wet, ranging from soaked close to the bathroom to merely wet next to the bed. Since this is a Manhattan apartment, all the floor space is being used - we have bags of winter clothes under the bed, boxes of shoes and tees in the closets, and you can guess - the bottom few inches of all of these were soaked.
Ah well - time to buy a new rug (I was tired of it anyway), and a good opportunity to sort out old shoes, tees and winter clothes to decide what to wash and what to toss out. Heidi is pretty annoyed, but I am just amused - must be because it's mostly her clothes that got wet. At least the bottom shelf of the bookshelves is a good inch and a half off the floor - remind me to keep my treasures off that bottom shelf in the future!
